AUBURN, CA - The Placer County Elections Office reminds voters that the voting period for the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election has officially started.

Per California law, vote-by-mail ballots for all active, eligible voters in Placer County were delivered to the Post Office by Feb. 5. Official ballot drop boxes opened for voter use Feb. 6 (visit https://www.placercountyelections.gov/drop-box-locations/ for a list of locations and hours of operation). 

In addition, early in-person voting is now available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Elections Office at 3715 Atherton Road in Rocklin. Voters who want to vote by mail but who have not received their vote-by-mail ballot by Feb. 12 should contact the Elections Office.

For new Placer County residents or those who have not yet registered to vote, the last day to register and receive a ballot and a Placer County Voter Information Guide for the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election by mail is Feb. 20. Registration forms can be picked up at the Elections Office or any Department of Motor Vehicles office, Post Office or library in Placer County. Voter registration can also be accessed online at https://registertovote.ca.gov/.

Voters who return completed registration forms by mail, in person to the Elections Office or through any Placer County drop box by midnight Feb. 20 can still receive their voting materials by mail. However, California voters who have missed this deadline can still access Conditional Voter Registration (CVR). Under this law, eligible voters who missed the 15-day registration deadline can come to the Elections Office or any vote center in Placer County on or before Election Day to conditionally register to vote and cast a ballot. The voter's election eligibility will be thoroughly assessed before the Conditional Voter Registration ballot is counted.

The Elections Office also reminds voters that their voter registration information might have been inadvertently changed if they have recently interacted with the DMV. It is important that they confirm their voter status, political party preference, address and all other pertinent information to make sure they are still registered correctly. Voters can check their registration information at https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov/.

The Elections Office is located at 3715 Atherton Road in Rocklin. Standard office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and Election Day (March 5) hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Elections Office will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the two weekends prior to the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election (Feb. 24 and 25, and March 2 and 3), as well as President Lincoln's Birthday (Feb. 12) and Presidents Day (Feb. 19). 

Voters are encouraged to visit the Elections Office in person or call 530-886-5650 (toll-free 1-800-824-8683) with any questions regarding the upcoming election. Elections staff will answer questions, assist voter registrations and issue replacement vote-by-mail ballots over the counter.

The Elections Office has recently adopted the Voter's Choice Act (VCA) election model, which means more in-person voting opportunities for Placer County voters.
