Placer County Elections Office Opens Candidate Filing for Nov. 4, Special Election

AUBURN, CA (MPG) - Community conversation about updating the Placer County Charter continues at the next meeting of the county’s Charter Review Committee on July 29 in Rocklin.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Placer County Clerk-Recorder-Elections Office, located at 3715 Atherton Road, Rocklin.

The Placer County Charter is a governing document that guides the organizational structure, duties and responsibilities of the county’s elected and appointed officials.

At the committee’s first meeting, May 20, committee members discussed several proposed updates to the charter for further consideration, including Board of Supervisors compensation methodology, the number of supervisors in Placer County and how long elected officials have to live in Placer County before running for office.

Information about each topic can be viewed here.

Under today’s charter, the Charter Review Committee is convened every five years and must meet in open session at least twice before making any recommendations for changes to the charter to the Board of Supervisors. Recommendations are not binding and do not obligate the board to adopt them.

Should the board choose to adopt any changes recommended by the committee, those changes must be approved by the voters of Placer County through ballot measures.

One committee member from each of the county’s five supervisorial districts and two at-large members were appointed collectively by the board earlier this year.
