Sep 04, 2015 12:00AM ● By AnonymousHungry kids in Placer County can access free meals after school at the Boys & Girls Club of Placer County, which offers United Way’s Healthy Meals program at its Mullin & McAdams Clubhouse, 679 Lincoln Way, and EV Cain Extension, 150 Palm Avenue, both in Auburn.
United Way’s Healthy Meals Program is a partnership with the USDA to ensure kids in at-risk after-school programs have access to well-balanced, nutritious meals. The program serves 1,000 meals a day at several community sites throughout the Sacramento region. Meals are made with high-quality, minimally processed ingredients and include fresh fruit and vegetables at each meal. In the 2014-2015 school year, local sites served 125,000 meals. “United Way’s Healthy Meals program is an integral piece of our approach to encouraging all of our club members and the community to lead healthy lifestyles,” said Jenn Cross, director of programs, Boys & Girls Club of Placer County. “The program provides kids with daily access to fresh and nutritious food that also tastes great. In addition, it provides our staff with valuable opportunities to have conversations with kids around healthy food choices and the positive effects of those choices on their futures.”
With its mission to inspire and empower all young people who pass through its doors to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens, Boys & Girls Club of Placer County has been a cornerstone of the community since opening its doors in 1994. Serving 1,200 youth annually and hundreds of youth daily, the club provides a safe, structured, and positive environment for young people after school, during holidays, and summer vacation.
