The Placer County Board of Supervisors March 8 approved agreements authorizing the use of park dedication fees to help renovate and improve three area parks.

Located throughout the Auburn and Meadow Vista areas, each of the highly-trafficked parks will benefit from updated, American Disabilities Act-compliant renovations.

Park dedication fees are one-time fees paid at whenever a new lot is created or a new residential building permit is issued. The fees are used to build new parks, trails and open space areas to keep up with population growth.

“Since the Board of Supervisors adopted the Placer County park dedication fee program in 1979, nearly $15 million has been generated to assist with construction or renovation of virtually every recreation facility in Placer County,” said Andy Fisher, Placer County parks division. “In addition to helping with Placer County recreation projects, the board also grants funding from the fee program to assist local partner agencies with their recreation project. These agencies include cities, school districts and recreation districts.”

To help construction of the Meadow Vista Community Center progress, funds for a parking lot, ADA-walkway improvements and lighting for those pathways have been granted in the amount of $44,000. These improvements will help make the north wing of the center functional and allow for public meetings that are currently limited to school facilities.

As the final step in completion of the Auburn Recreation District’s ADA compliance plan, Railhead Park will receive $15,000 to help remodel the existing restroom facility and build new parking spaces and a path that leads to the building.

Placer High School’s tennis court facilities - the only public courts in south Auburn - will also undergo renovation and repairs with $25,000 in funding.

With all three requests fulfilled, the parks and grounds operating fund balance will total $212,259.
