On January 15, 2020, at approximately 1:45 PM, the Citrus Heights Police Department was requested by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to respond to the 7400 block of Auburn Oaks Court in Citrus Heights regarding a suspicious death.  The California Highway Patrol was conducting a welfare check on a female at this location as a part of their investigation of a deceased male subject who had been located with a rope tied around his neck alongside the freeway embankment near the border of Roseville and Citrus Heights city limits on Saturday, January 11, 2020.

CHP located the female deceased inside an apartment at an Auburn Oaks Court residence and reported the circumstances to the Citrus Heights Police Department. Citrus Heights police detectives responded to the location and took over the investigation, which is currently ongoing.  During the course of the investigation, detectives determined the death appeared to be a homicide.

The identity of the adult female decedent is being withheld at this time as her next of kin have not yet been notified.  It is unconfirmed at this time, if the CHP death investigation from January 11, 2020, is connected to the homicide investigation.
