Volunteers needed for tax assistance program
Oct 11, 2022 12:00AM ● By Placer County News ReleaseAUBURN, CA (MPG) -- Looking to make a difference and give back to the community? Placer County’s Free Tax Prep program (also known as VITA) is currently seeking volunteers for the 2023 tax season.
The program, operating in conjunction with United Way and the IRS, offers free tax preparation assistance to individuals and families in Placer County with an income of approximately $66,000 or less.
Program volunteers work one-on-one with clients to help them file taxes and maximize refunds. No prior experience is needed, as training is provided. Training is available virtually. Coordinators will also be available to assist volunteers with any questions.
Last year, the program generated close to $190,000 in state and federal refunds for hundreds of Placer County residents.
“At a time when many working families are grappling with the impacts of inflation, this program is a needed boost to them and to our local economy,” said Human Services Director Greg Geisler. “For volunteers, it is also valuable experience with customer service and financials.”
