AUBURN, CA (MPG) - The Placer County Elections Office would like to share a few details to ensure voters are able to confidently and successfully cast their ballots in the November 5, 2024, General Election.

Vote-by-mail ballots for all eligible, active Placer County voters were put in the mail by Oct. 7. If you choose to use your vote-by-mail ballot to cast your votes, there are a few things to remember.

If you return it by mail or through one of 31 official ballot, drop boxes located throughout the county, make sure it’s sealed in its return envelope and signed on the back under the flap, next to the red X. Trained elections staff have received signature comparison training from a forensic document examiner and review every vote-by-mail signature. If your signature is missing or does not compare with your voter record signature, elections staff will contact you and only count your ballot if you send a signed statement confirming it was voted by you.

Mailed ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day, Nov. 5, and received by our office no later than Nov. 12. It is recommended you mail your ballot early, especially if you’re currently out of the county. Ballots returned via drop box are retrieved daily by elections staff and brought back to the Elections Office for processing. You can find locations and their hours of operation on the Placer County Elections website, https://www.placercountyelections.gov/.

Perhaps the easiest and fastest way to get your votes counted is the new “Sign, Scan & Go!” process. Starting Oct. 26, you can bring your vote-by-mail ballot to any open Placer County vote center, sign in with elections staff, scan your ballot using the ballot scanner and go! Voters during the March primary reported that they loved the new, expedited process, especially knowing their votes were counted as they watched and included in the preliminary results released on election night.
