KINGS BEACH, CA (MPG) - More than 100 community members joined Placer County staff from various departments and other community partners this week at the county’s Discover & Discuss community event at the North Tahoe Event Center.
The newly added housing solutions room allowed attendees to learn more about Placer’s affordable housing programs such as the Launchpad program, the Workforce Housing Preservation Program, the Brown Bear Studios project and more. Guests could also learn from multiple partner agencies, including the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Sierra Community House, the Truckee Tahoe Workforce Housing Agency, North Tahoe Community Alliance and more. Numerous activities were added to the housing solutions room to provide attendees with a chance to immerse themselves in scenarios that demonstrated the difficulty people face in finding local housing.
“This event series was created to foster meaningful dialogue and provide residents with the opportunity to learn about and give input on key initiatives shaping the Tahoe region,” said Tahoe’s Staff Services Manager Lindsay Romack, who helped organize the event. “It was great to see so many community members come out and learn about important projects and initiatives in the region and it was more than a Placer event. We saw tremendous support from our partner agencies, and we know how important that can be to really improve local projects and services.”
Attendees could also go to the Timberline Room to discuss a variety of topics like the Placer 2050 General Plan Update, infrastructure projects, summer road construction, emergency preparedness and more.
Placer County also hosted a booth highlighting new projects on the county’s Engage Placer community website. Numerous projects are open for input, including:
North Lake Tahoe’s Housing Initiative
North Lake Tahoe-Donner Summit community green waste survey
Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit Systems Plan update
North Lake Tahoe’s Parking Management Program
Placer County’s General Plan Update
Residents can also learn more about the following on Engage Placer:

The Sierra Community House was also heavily involved as they provided Spanish interpretation throughout the evening for attendees and hosted a children’s activity area.
