AUBURN, CA (MPG) - Placer County Animal Services is helping senior pet owners keep their dogs licensed and safe with a new 50% discount for qualifying households.
Placer County residents aged 62 and older can now get half off license fees for up to two spayed or neutered dogs. The discount is available through the county’s online licensing portal and in person at the Animal Services Center in Auburn.
“We know how much pets mean to people, especially seniors,” said Katie Ingram, Animal Services program manager with Placer County. “We’re launching this discount during Older Americans Month to make it easier for them to follow licensing requirements and keep their pets safe.”
Standard license fees in the areas of Placer County served by Animal Services are $27 per year for an altered dog or $55 for an unaltered dog ($54/$110 for 2 years or $63/$141 for three years). Placer County’s digital pet licensing system makes it easy to register, renew and manage licenses online.
Dog owners in areas served by Placer County Animal Services can purchase or renew a license online at www.placer.ca.gov/PetLicense. Residents in Auburn, Roseville and Rocklin should check with their local jurisdictions, as these cities manage their own animal licensing programs.
California law requires all dogs over four months old to be licensed. Licensing not only helps ensure lost pets are returned home quickly — it also supports vital animal services. Last year, 81 percent of dogs arriving at Placer County Animal Services lacked any identification and less than one third of those were reunited with their owners. Many more pets could have been returned to their owners had they been wearing identification.
