AUBURN, CA (MPG) - Lead remediation work is set to begin at the former Lincoln Gun Range and former Titan 1-A missile site, a project that is expected to take about two months to complete.
Placer County’s Facilities Management department has contracted with Metals Treatment Technologies (MT2), which specializes in remediation work. Nearby residents can expect to see the contractor mobilize by mid-September.
The cleanup will bring the site up to residential standards, ensuring it is safe for future generations. The land could be developed into a park or another use.
Placer County acquired the Lincoln property on Oak Tree Lane in the late 1960s and constructed both a gun range and a skeet range that served as a training ground for law enforcement. Although the ranges have been closed since 1999, firing lines, earthen berms and spent ammunition remain at the site, leaving lead in the soil.
The cleanup will involve excavating soils, screening and collecting lead shot for recycling, soil treatment and removing soils as necessary. The county’s consultant, Provost & Pritchard Consulting Group, will implement consistent monitoring throughout the project to ensure air quality is maintained and no stormwater leaves the site.

“Thanks to the expertise of our facilities management team and the contractor we’ve selected, I’m confident this cleanup will be done right,” said District 2 Supervisor Shanti Landon. “I’m thankful for the hard work being done to clean up the former ranges so the community can benefit from a safe and healthy property moving forward.”
The project is scheduled to be completed before December. For updates visit https://www.placer.ca.gov/leadcleanup.
