ROCKLIN, CA (MPG) - If you’re thinking of running for office during the June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election, the Placer County Elections Office would like to remind you of a few important details and deadlines.
All offices up for election can be found on the Placer County Elections website at https://www.placercountyelections.gov/current-elections or in the lobby of the Placer County Elections Office at 3715 Atherton Road in Rocklin.
To appear on the ballot, candidates for judicial office are required to file a declaration of intention prior to filing for office during the candidate filing period. Prospective judicial candidates may file a declaration of intention between Jan. 26 and Feb. 4. If an incumbent fails to file, the deadline to file declarations of intention for that seat will extend to Feb. 9 for all individuals other than the incumbent.
Also through Feb. 4, candidates for office may cover all or part of their required filing fee by collecting signatures of active, registered Placer County voters using signature in lieu petitions. Candidates may pick up these petitions at the Placer County Elections Office at 3715 Atherton Road in Rocklin. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding county holidays).
Candidate filing for all offices up for election at the June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary begins Feb. 9 and ends March 6 at 5 p.m. If an incumbent fails to file during this period, candidate filing for that office will extend to March 11 at 5 p.m. for any candidate except the incumbent. If a district’s boundaries have changed since the last time the office was up for election, or if the officeholder has termed out, the office has no incumbent, and the extension of candidate filing will not apply.
Prospective candidates can access filing services Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Placer County Elections Office at 3715 Atherton Road in Rocklin. The Elections Office will be closed in observance of President Lincoln’s birthday on Monday, Feb. 9, as well as Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 16.
It is highly recommended that prospective candidates schedule appointment(s) to pull and/or file their candidacy paperwork by visiting the Placer County Elections website at https://www.placercountyelections.gov/candidate-filing.
Candidate filing services will also be available at the Placer County Clerk-Recorder’s Office at 2954 Richardson Drive in Auburn and the Tahoe Customs House at 775 North Lake Blvd. in Tahoe City on select days and by appointment only.
