AUBURN, CA (MPG) - Placer County is seeking residents with an interest in helping ensure safe construction practices to apply to serve on the Building Board of Appeals.

The nine-member board’s duty is to work with the county’s Building Services Division to advise the Board of Supervisors on construction-related matters and set rules for how it conducts hearings. The board meets on an as-needed basis.

The county is currently seeking one member representing the disabled community, one representative from District 1 (Supervisor Bonnie Gore) and one representative from District 4 (Supervisor Suzanne Jones).

“Our Building Board of Appeals plays an important role in making sure construction decisions are fair, consistent and grounded in safety,” said Tim Wegner, chief building official for the Placer County Community Development Resource Agency. “We’re looking for community members with technical expertise and local knowledge who are willing to step up and help us maintain high standards for construction across Placer County.”

District representatives must live in the district they serve and have experience in construction, design or engineering. Familiarity with Placer County’s terrain and climate is a plus.

The disabled community representative does not need to have expertise in those fields, but a willingness to share their perspective and experiences related to the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

Residents who want to use their expertise to support safe building in Placer County are encouraged to apply through the county’s website or contact the Community Development Resource Agency for more information.

Application forms are available at  https://www.placer.ca.gov/DocumentCenter/View/58296/Application-for-Committees-and-Commissions. Completed applications can be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to Clerk of the Board, 175 Fulweiler Ave., Auburn CA 95603.
