ROCKLIN, CA (MPG) - The second annual Rocklin Heritage Street Faire, a celebration of the rich history and cultures of the region, will  be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 on historic Front Street.

Volunteers are planning a free, family-friendly event that will feature performances by a variety of ethnic music and dance groups, including Chinese Lion dancers, Irish and Tahitian dancers and an African dance troupe as well as Aztec and Native American performers.

Hosted by the Rocklin Historical Society, booths highlighting Rocklin’s history and the cultures of its residents will be set up  along historic Front Street, Rocklin’s original downtown. Centered around Rocklin’s history of “Rocks, Rails and Ranches,” the booths will present photos and stories of its early residents: Native Americans, Finnish, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese.

Invited to participate are the Tuskegee Airmen of Placer County and representatives of other cultures, including the Pakistani community. Several non-profit organizations, including Placer County SPCA, Placer County Friends of the Library, American  Heart Association and Alcoholics Anonymous, have agreed to join the day’s festivities. Other activities include a display of the  City of Rocklin’s Police and Fire Department historic vehicles, the Placer County Bookmobile, a variety of kids’ activities and ethnic food trucks. Plein Aire artists have also been invited to showcase their works in progress throughout the day.

While there is no booth fee for non-profits to participate, priority will be given to Rocklin and Placer County organizations. The  focus of this event is on community organizations rather than commercial vendors. For more information about reserving  booth space or becoming a sponsor, email the Rocklin Historical Society at rocklinhistorical.org or visit  rocklinhistorical.org/streetfaire.

At 3:30 p.m., the city will host a walking parade from the Heritage Street Faire (end of Front Street) to Johnson-Springview Park where the city's Red, White and Bluegrass celebration will be held from 4 p.m. to dusk. The event will feature bluegrass music, local vendors, an artists' row and a fireworks display.

The Heritage Street Faire is a free event and takes place on Saturday, May 2nd from 10AM to 3PM on historic Front Street  in front of Peter Hill Heritage Park, 5251 Front Street in Rocklin, California.
