AUBURN, CA (MPG) - Sponsored by Two Ass Brewing, Cinema at the State presents "Dogtown and Z Boys" Friday, June 19 at Odd Fellows Lodge #7, 1226 1/2 Lincoln Way, Auburn, CA.

This cult classic documentary introduces the Z-Boys - a group of brash street kids from Venice, California's tough Dogtown neighborhood - who revolutionized skateboarding with an aggressive in-your-face style that shredded the competition and influenced today's extreme sports.  Narrated by Sean Penn, this classic film features old-school skating footage, a blistering soundtrack and interviews with skateboarding icons Tony Alva, Jay Adams and Tony Hawk.

In mid-70s America, skateboarding was a fad in danger of dying out until a group of surfers in Venice began moving to extremes in both lifestyle and techniques, using their skills in empty swimming pools and the streets to create a new form of skateboarding. The film captures the rise of the Zephyr skateboarding team from Venice's Dogtown, a tough "locals only" beach with a legacy of outlaw surfing.  Director Stacy Peralta, who was one of the group, weaves home footage of their early days with interviews with those still in the scene.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and kids 11 and under (includes $2 fee). To purchase tickets, visit AuburnStateTheatre.org or call 530-885-0156.
