A Legacy of Giving: Vernon "Bud" and Bernie Beadles

AUBURN, CA (MPG) - Bud and Bernadine “Bernie” Beadles met in France in 1956, when a friend convinced Bud, an Air Force jet pilot, to help Bernie move boxes from one barracks to another. Four months later, they were engaged, and in April 1957 they were married.
Their life together would take them to many places through Bud’s military service and work. As retirement approached, Bud began thinking about where they should finally put down roots. After visiting a dentist friend in Auburn, he felt the small town could be home. It took Bernie a little longer to agree, but once they moved, they never looked back.
Auburn’s friendly feel reminded them of the Midwest towns where they had grown up, and both became active in the community. Bernie volunteered with the Assistance League of Greater Placer County, while Bud served with the Auburn Host Lions Club.
That same spirit of service shaped the way they thought about charitable giving.
The Beadles were introduced to Placer Community Foundation by their attorney, Paul Aronowitz, in 2010. Bud later described PCF as “the answer we were looking for.” They wanted to support the causes they cared about during their lifetimes, while also making sure that giving would continue long after they were gone.
Together, they established the Bud and Bernadine Beadles Charitable Fund, a Donor Advised Fund at PCF. Over the years, Bud directed grants to local and national causes that reflected their values, vision and passions. They also included a future gift in their estate plan.
“We love to see people succeed,” Bud once said, “and most times, they just have to be given an opportunity.”
Today, after both Bud and Bernie have passed, their charitable fund continues to support their Lutheran faith, youth, the performing arts, and the poor and impoverished.
From the life they built together in Auburn to the causes they chose to support, Bud and Bernie planned with care for the people and community that mattered to them.
